When you arrive in a foreign country it is so nice to see your name on a card held by the person that will take you to your destination. Just so happens the owner, Nadege picks you up and you can ask all the questions you want. Mystic River is a place for the person that wants to read by the river and listen to the sounds of the birds or the person that wants adventure. I wanted both. So much to do I felt that I was at a luxury adventure camp. We arrived late in the day and our arrival was the beginning of an adventure. This is not a paved road street sign destination. It is exciting and it is bumpy. But it was wonderful. Why I felt like it was truly out in the middle of nowhere. I had no intention of leaving the resort except for my daily adventures. This is why you come here. Not to run to town but to relax and enjoy this very quiet out of the way riverside resort. When you come around the bend and proceed up the hill and arrive into this beautiful resort you wished you were staying longer. Out luggage disappeared and I am glad there was no way I would be dragging it on the pebble walkway. We went to the Palapa Bar for a late lunch. Our adventure package included a meal plan and after our stay here this is the ONLY way to go. We ordered from the extensive menu and each and every meal was gourmet fresh and wonderful. We were shown our huge room with a deck to sit on to watch the birds on the river. Very nice and big for a family to call home. Mystic River is a place for adventure and I wanted to be with my adult kids and have fun. This place is perfect for the older teen that loves the outdoors. Our first night’s dinner was so good that I was glad that I was going to be active. Thank you to the kitchen staff at Mystic River. Here we are in the jungle of Belize and I am handed a glass of water!
A glass of water from their own well! Imagine being able to drink water from the faucet! Cold and very good! Our first day we were taken to up and over the mountain to one of the many caves and we repelled into the cave. This is NOT a tourist destination it is a place the locals found. The cave was massive. Eber our guide for our stay was amazing and always had the answer to your question. Then we went to a place where we could swim with waterfalls all around us. We only saw two people briefly all day. They packed a very good picnic lunch for us and we picnicked on a table overlooking the cascading waterfalls. Back to our luxury cabin for a hot shower and dinner. Always fun to see who has arrived in the resort. With only 8 cabins you get to meet people from all over the world. The next day we went zip lining at Calico Jacks. We have zip lined all over the world and this one was a lot of fun. Then we went horseback riding on the well cared for horses that eat green grass every day. They were very spoiled and the horses were perfect for young to old riders. While the kids were out for the morning I had a massage and listening to the sounds of the chickens, goats, and birds was a real treat. We did a lot here and had so much fun. Tom and Nadege would come around each evening and make sure that we had lunch ordered if we were going to be away for the day or to tell us who our private guide was. We just wish we had signed up for 6 days and not 4. We loved being on the river in canoes and then the next day we went in tubes down the river. If you are a bird watcher you better not rush your breakfast because while you eat the toucan’s eat fresh fruit laid out on large platforms in between the trees. So much fun! The fresh eggs were so good and the homemade banana bread was a daily treat. If you are lucky enough to get one of the 8 rooms make sure that you have enough time to do it all or… not at all. You will have privacy if you want or you can meet new friends. We did extensive research and when we were at Mystic River we were very very happy that we were here. Come with a sense of wonder and leave with a sense of Awe. At night you can sleep deeply because of the fresh air and forest silence. Come to renew yourself or bring you closer to your family. Whatever your reason you will be glad you were able to experience Mystic River.
Room Tip: Doesn’t matter they are so far apart and on the river that to get a room is all you should care about…
